Filming in the UK to Outsmart the Coronavirus

It’s impossible to ignore the impact Coronavirus is having upon businesses world-wide at the moment. Major events have been cancelled such as the Chinese Grand Prix, Geneva Motor Show, Moto GP rounds in both Qatar and Thailand and also the UAE Cycling Tour. And with Sony and Microsoft pulling out of the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, it’s clear that the outbreak is being taken extremely seriously by some of the world’s biggest brands. Manufacturers are having to look to alternative methods for their new product releases, with innovative approaches from brands such as McLaren who have held their own launch event for the new 765LT from the McLaren Technology Centre with a live stream for viewers and consumers across the world.

But does Corona mean halting your marketing activity? That’s not an option for most organisations. With targets to be met and goals to be achieved, a lot of our clients are looking at ways to make the most of the adverse business environment created by the Corona outbreak. Travel limitations and quarantine periods for employees are meaning brands are having to adapt in order to continue operating successfully. Certainly for Kingdom it is a challenge, with the majority of our filming work taking place overseas and relying heavily on some of the motorsport calendar’s most highly attended events.

The good news is that there are options for brands to flourish in this time of difficulty. As a base for shoots and events, the UK has some of the most diverse landscapes and unique location possibilities on the planet for filming. Brands who would typically host a press launch, event or shoot at an overseas location are now planning more local activities in order to minimise risk, make more efficient use of their time and also bring a new and unique approach to their content.

SCOTLAND

Want a mountainous backdrop with twisty roads and stunning views? How about the Scottish Highlands. We’ve been lucky enough to shoot in Scotland a few times and it certainly never disappoints. The below film was made for Waldorf Astoria for a collaboration with Aston Martin prior to the Goodwood Festival of Speed and showcases just why this spectacular part of the world is a fantastic base for a shoot or event.

LONDON

If you need to shoot in the City, the Capital definitely doesn’t disappoint. London’s diverse districts provide everything from clean lines and high rise buildings in the financial district, to ultra-cool, grungy urban streets and colourful markets. And of course the London skyline is one of the most iconic in the world – check it out below in a film we made recently for Wexer & Bodybike.

RACING CIRCUITS

The UK also has some of the best racing circuits on the planet meaning you don’t have to head abroad if you want to host an event or film based at the track. Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire has often been referred to as the ‘mini Nurburgring’ and for good reason – the elevation changes and wooded section make this location feel similar to the Green Hell, but it’s conveniently located right here in the United Kingdom. Here’s a film we made for Triumph to illustrate this spectacular circuit.

THE PEAK DISTRICT

Nestled between Manchester and Sheffield, the Peak District offers rugged scenery and quaint villages in abundance without the need to travel as far afield. It also offers a great place to ride a bike, as demonstrated by Sir Chris Hoy in a film we made with him for Drivetribe.

WALES

Famous for mountainous Snowdonia, remote beaches and rich history, Wales brings with it so many opportunities for a unique campaign close to home. Filming for Nissan, we took their Dark Sky concept vehicle to North Wales in search of clear skies and bright stars:

SCOTTISH ISLANDS

For an even more remote location, the Scottish Islands provide the perfect backdrop for intrepid brands who want to showcase their product or service off the beaten track. We recently created some content for Jaguar Land Rover on the Isle of Mull – a beautiful location off the West coast of Scotland which has become renowned for its beautiful multi-coloured houses by the harbour.

So which part of the UK will choose for your next shoot or event? At Kingdom we can help you select the perfect location to suit your brand and achieve the results you have been dreaming of, all without stepping on plane. We have experience shooting in all corners of the country and have the ability to make the most of this opportunity to do something different.

And if you already have footage, we can help turn that into relevant content for your brand or repurpose it for whatever activity you have planned. If you’d like to know how we can help, just get in touch with us today!
